Burnishing is a process done to Foil after Crimping to flatten the foil and adhere it to the edge of whatever it is being applied to.
This does a few things:
- Provides a tight hold on the object that is being foiled.
- Fully adheres the adhesive to the object which will help prevent Flux, Patina and other chemicals from getting trapped below the foil.
- Keeps the foil in place during Soldering.
Burnishing can be done with nearly any smooth and hard object but is most often done with a Fid or Lathekin.
