Glass Nipper
Glass Nippers (also called Tile Nippers or Mosaic Nippers) are a plier like hand tool that are used to separate small parts of glass roughly via focused pressure applied by two hardened wheels.
Similar Tools
There is another type of Tile Nipper that uses a forward facing jaw without wheels. It works in a similar way but isn't the same tool and will have less uses for glass as they have limited throat depth in the same direction as the cutting surface.
Uses
Glass Nippers are used all over for various glass tasks.
- Hot Glass and Warm Glass for breaking down glass rods, millefiori, and other difficult to cut bar/rod like glass.
- Warm Glass also sees them used for various tasks like roughing out shapes to be Fused, the resulting look they give for decorative reasons or bulk processing of scrap into Glass Nuggets.
- Leaded Glass doesn't really have much use for this kind of tool though they can still be utilized sometimes.
How to Use
Using this tool is simple, place the glass between the two wheels and squeeze the handle until the glass pops apart. Changing the angle which the tool faces will change the outcome of the part somewhat, there's not a ton of control when being used to break large sections.
