Foil Saddle

Foil Saddles are a means to prevent issues with Foil Splits in tight curves or other complex geometry. This doesn't work well for Heavy Textures of glass though.

Put simply you are just adding extra foil below the wrap of foil on the edge and controlling where the split happens so you know there's foil below it.

Tools Required

• Foil
• Craft Knife
• (Optional) Scissors

Step by Step Instructions

Before you foil the part, follow these steps.

1. Cut a short bit of foil that will easily wrap from the top to the bottom surface of the glass.
2. Stick one end of the foil on one side of the glass.
3. Wrap the foil across the edge.
4. Burnish the foil onto the glass so it's tight against the edge.
5. Fold the last bit over onto the other side.
6. Repeat as required on the part doing all points.
7. Foil around the edge as you normally would but don't fold or burnish it.
8. At all the saddles you placed snip/cut the foil slightly.
9. Now fold and burnish your foil around the edge.
10. Return to all the saddles and use a craft knife to cut the extra foil away and make the saddle match what the foil should look like.
